Chris's Injury

Chris was playing basketball in the Clearfield Rec League and got elbowed hard in the face. He got up and kept playing, drove himself home, and was looking pretty horrible

He didn't want to go to the doctor. I told him his face looked broken to me and he pushed on the bones with his fingers and said he thought it was fine. I was checking his pupils and making sure he was oriented x4 which he was. He was very lethargic though and we were sure he had a concussion

Chris finally agreed to let me take him to the doctor. He got a CT and it turned out he had a serious tripod facial fracture and we were referred to a maxillo-facial surgeon. Thankfully there was no permanent damage to his eye, just some horrible bruising to his sclera that turned his whole white of his eye purple and swollen so it wasn't smooth anymore. It looked absolutely sickening and horrible. And gratefully again, no permanent damage to his brain, just a bad concussion.

The next day, 3/21 we had an appointment with the surgeon and were shown these images from the CT and set a date for surgery.

Chris's surgery was on 3/26. He had permanent plates put in and they reconstructed his bone structure. It was pretty dang brutal. One of the incisions came up through inside his mouth through his upper lip, and that one was really painful and horrible to recover from.

Tessa's prayer soon after Chris's injury:

"Please bless daddy that his face will feel better and his eye will feel better and that guy that punched his face will make good choices." <3
